Yaay Macy’s has finally jumped on the bandwagon and is now a facility that accepts plastic bags for recycling! As a former employee of Macy’s, I’ve witnessed first hand the massive amount of plastic bags they go through… Although, working in cosmetics made it easier for me to convince customers that they did not need a bag for the lipstick they just bought.

Woohoo! This really made my day :) My respect for Macy’s has gone up a notch!

San José is the largest City in the state to ban plastic carryout bags.
The ordinance will go into effect on January 1, 2012, and:
  1. Grocery stores, pharmacies, small and large retailers will no longer be allowed to provide plastic carryout bags at checkout;
  2. Stores may still provide paper bags made of 40% post-consumer recycled material and charge a minimum of 10 cents for each bag. After the initial two years, the store charge will increase to a minimum of 25 cents for paper bags. The charge will be retained by the store;
  3. Customers purchasing food with WIC and CalFresh “food stamps” may be provided a recycled content paper bag at no cost for the first two years of the ban.

Oh San Jose, stop trying to get me to move there!

    Haha I love how blunt this sign is!  Out of the many Borders I shop at, only the one in Alameda has this sign!  A while ago, I remember when Borders required a paper copy of the coupon they send via email.  FINALLY, nowadays, you can show the coupon on your phone and they’ll accept it!  Technically, you only need to provide the coupon code, and that’ll be enough! <3 Borders.

    I went shopping a few weeks ago with my mom and sisters at Gilroy.  My sis bought a pair of boots from Aldo.. and after telling them our usual spiel “No thanks, we don’t need a bag,” the sales associate actually responded “Oh!  We don’t give out bags anymore!”  She then continued to explain that Aldo recently changed their ways!  Instead of offering a plastic shopping bag, Aldo inserts a piece of string through the shoebox; they also place 3 pieces of tape across the opening of the box to seal it shut, and voila!  A makeshift shopping bag is created!

    I love the ingenuity!  I noticed that Charlotte Russe also started doing this!  I hope this is a rising trend =)
